The Dartmoor hawthorns explode with energy in the late Spring. I found this beautiful example one bright, sunny, day in 2021, with its dark shadow a perfect contrast with the bright whiteness of its flowers. The location is a little way south of Wind Tor, near Widecombe.

This is a 4-block, 4-colour, print. The block cutting took me weeks to complete - progress on the blacks alone was painfully slow, and, until that final colour was printed, there was always a concern that the print would fail - you never know until the printing is finished.

There are subtle variations between each print - as is the way with lino relief printing. In some, the sky is a little light and contains more speckles, in others, the shadow is less dense, allowing some elements of the green grass to show through. So if the print pictured here is no longer available, I'll be happy to send photos that will show the variances so you can choose the version you like the best.
